This is a perfect moment to showcase your creative skills to anyone daring to watch the (formerly) painful process of attempting to get the cork out. How are they going to do it?

No stress! Here we have all the tips you need on how to open your cork bottle Here are 6 of the easiest ways to get the cork out of your wine bottle!

A small disclaimer if you have a expensive and/or rare bottle of wine that you’ve been saving for a special occasion and want to fully enjoy. Well… perhaps it’s worth waiting for a real corkscrew in case these creative opening techniques don’t work perfectly every time. If you’re already looking this up, chances are your dedication is strong. That wine is getting drunk tonight one way or another! Scroll to the end of the blog for some additional tips on how to further enjoy our wine!

Tip 1: Use your car/house/friends’ keys

Find a sturdy key that won’t bend or break under pressure. Insert the key at a 45-degree angle into the cork. Push the key as far in as possible. Now, while twisting, slowly pull the cork upwards. Blijf draaien en trekken totdat de kurk eruit springt. Als de kurk begint te scheuren, kun je hem op dat punt met je vingers vastpakken en de rest eruit trekken!

Tip 2: The screw and hammer method

You’ll need a screwdriver, a screw, and a hammer. It’s quite straightforward. You screw the screw into the cork using the screwdriver until only a small piece sticks out. Now grab the hammer, and no, we’re not hammering on the screw! Gebruik het andere uiteinde van de hamer om voorzichtig aan de schroef te trekken, alsof je een spijker verwijdert. Met een delicate aanraking kun je de kurk verwijderen zonder dat er stukjes in je wijn belanden.

Tip 3: Tap it against a wall

If you need to release some energy before relaxing and enjoying your wine, then this method is for you! Wrap your wine bottle in a towel, making sure all sides and the bottom are covered. You can use any sturdy surface. Put on your favorite music beat and rhythmically tap the bottom of the bottle horizontally against the wall. Keep repeating this motion until the cork comes out enough to pull it out!

If you don’t have a towel handy, you can use your shoe! Make sure there’s enough padding inside the shoe. A hard smack against the wall can break the bottle, leaving you without wine and a Merlot-soaked shoe.

Tip 4: Heat the neck of the bottle

Place the neck of the bottle under very hot water for about 30 seconds. Be careful not to wet the cork!! By doing this, the glass will expand due to the heat, loosening the cork enough so you can pull it out with your hands. You can also do this with a lighter or gas burner. Place the bottle on a table and heat it for about a minute. It goes without saying that the gas burner works much faster than a lighter. Did you know that there are actually many household applications for a gas burner, from weeding and paint stripping to making crème brûlée?

Tip 5: Use Scissors

Insert one of the blades of the scissors into the cork. Then firmly hold the neck of the bottle. Twist and pull until the cork pops out, cheers! With this method, there’s a risk of cutting yourself or losing a finger. Therefore, we recommend using this method only when you’re opening your first bottle of wine, not the fourth or fifth.

Tip 6: Just push the wine cork in

As a last resort if you don’t have a corkscrew, car keys, or other items on hand. Very simple, just push the entire cork into the bottle! Use your fingers to push it in as far as possible, then find an object for that final push. A wooden spoon handle or the back of a fork are ideal; you don’t want anything too sharp. You want to prevent pieces of cork from floating in the bottle. If you don’t mind the cork being inside the bottle, this is probably the easiest and quickest way to open a bottle of wine.

A few tips if you decide to use this method to open the wine bottle. Watch out for a splash when the cork goes in. Grab a towel and cover your hand while you push the last bit in. This way it will catch any drops from the splash. Pouring the wine might require a bit of extra energy with the cork floating around in the bottle But hé! Your bottle is open and you can drink the wine!
