Six hours. In our own testing, a Classic Coolenator held a served 750 ml wine bottle below its 8 °C starting temperature for a full six hours, in a room at 20 to 22 °C.
The coldest point came at about two hours, at roughly 0.7 °C. No ice, no water, no electricity.
All the cooling comes from a removable freezer bullet that you freeze in advance. That takes about nine hours.

How the freezer bullet works

Instead of ice, a Coolenator uses a solid reusable core called the freezer bullet.
You freeze it, twist it into the base of the insulated sleeve, and drop your bottle in. The bullet pulls heat out of the drink for hours. Then it goes back in the freezer to be used again.
The practical difference is that nothing melts. No meltwater, no dripping bottle, no ring on the table, and nothing to refill.
The six-hour test, hour by hour
We tested a Classic Coolenator with a calibrated digital probe placed in the liquid itself, not against the glass.
The bottle was 750 ml, two thirds full, to match a bottle that has already been poured from. It started at 8 °C in a room held at 20 to 22 °C, and we took a reading every thirty minutes.

The wine never went back above where it started. That is the line we use about your last sip being colder than your first, and this is the test behind it.

How long the bullet takes to freeze
About nine hours at -18 °C.
We tested that separately. The bullet went in as liquid at room temperature, roughly 22 °C, into a semi-full household freezer running at -18 °C, verified with an internal thermometer. We checked it every hour until no liquid phase was left.
Nine hours is the floor, not the target. Overnight is better, and longer is better still.
Put it near the back or on a lower shelf. The door is the warmest part of any freezer.
What changes your result
Our six hours came from controlled conditions. Yours will vary, and these are the four reasons why.
On the freezing side
- A freezer running warmer than -18 °C needs longer
- An overfilled or frequently opened freezer slows things down
- Bullets in the door or on high shelves freeze more slowly than those at the back or bottom
On the cooling side
- Hotter surroundings shorten the cold
- A warm bottle to start with costs you the most. Pre-chill it in the fridge
- Around two thirds full performs best
- Every time you lift the bottle out, warm air gets in
That last one matters more than people expect. Put the bottle back between pours.
Which model to pick

All of them use the same freezer bullet principle. They differ in size and in how much cooling mass they carry.
Classic, 20 cm. The model tested above. Fits a standard 750 ml wine or champagne bottle.
Tall, 30 cm. For taller bottles, where a standard cooler would leave the neck out in the warm.
Tall Turbo, double bullet. Twice the cooling mass, for hot days and long lunches.
Beer Coolenator. A smaller bullet sized for cans and 330 ml bottles.
One honest note. The six-hour figure above is measured for the Classic and we are not going to quote it for the others. We have not run the same controlled test on the Tall, Tall Turbo or Beer models yet. When we do, the numbers go on this page.
